Injuries and Ailments
One might think that in the neutral environment of a swimming pool, it would be a very stupid or unlucky swimmer that
became injured. Quite the contrary. Swimmers by the nature of their sport, and the environment in which their sport must
take place, are prone to a very specific group of injuries and ailments that are so common that the medical community has
named some after the sport itself. In this section I'll try to describe common ailments that swimmers encounter in the
course of their everyday training, competing, and in the act of just being around pools so much.
