Turns
Turns are violence. Many non-competitive swimmers will wonder what I mean by this statement since swimming is such a beautiful and non-violent sport. It's elegant and graceful since water is the only thing you can use to move yourself and water will resist any violent movement. Hah. You've never seen a good flip turn then. In reality every good turn is violent. Imagine a ball being thrown against the side of a house. The harder you throw that ball, the faster it will come back to you. Well in swimming, you're the ball. The faster you hit that wall, the faster you'll come off it, and the faster will be your time.
In this section I will describe the timing, action, and feel of good turns. It's not for the faint-hearted. Even the best swimmers have had their concussions, dislocations, and broken bones trying to do these turns well, but in the end it's worth it. Who doesn't want a faster time anyway?
